Types of Clarifiers and Thickeners

1.  Advection sedimentation tank

The pool is rectangular, and the waste water flows from one end of the pool to the pool in the horizontal direction and flows out from the other end of the pool. At the bottom of the inlet of the pool, there is a mud bucket. The bottom of other parts of the pool has a slope, and tends to store mud hoppers.

2.  Vertical flow sedimentation tank

The pool type is mostly round and is also square or polygonal. The wastewater is entered from the central tube in the center of the pool. From the bottom of the center pipe, it is evenly distributed on the cross section of the pool from the bottom of the center tube, and the water flow direction is basically down to the bottom because the outlet is set at the pool or wall. Sludge storage at the bottom of the sludge bucket.

3.  Radiant sedimentation tank

A radial sedimentation tank is also called a Circular Clarifiers and Thickeners, The pool is mostly circular, and small pools sometimes use squares or polygons. The inlet and outlet layout of the tank is basically the same as that of the vertical flow tank, and the inlet is in the center and the outlet is around. However, the ratio of pool diameter to pool depth is much larger than that of vertical flow cistern. The water flow in the pool is in the horizontal direction to the nearby radiant flow, and the flow velocity in the pool gradually slows down from the pool center to the pool. The mud bucket is located in the center of the pool, and the bottom of the tank tilts to the center. The sludge is usually removed by scraping mud or suction.

The function of the inlet and outlet areas is to keep the inlet and outlet of the water flow evenly and smoothly, so as to improve the sedimentation efficiency. The precipitation area is the main part of the pool. The mud storage area is the place where the sludge is stored. It plays the role of storage, concentration and emission. The buffer zone is between the settling area and the mud storage area, and the buffer zone is used to prevent the water from taking away the sludge which is deposited at the bottom of the tank.

The operation mode 

The operation mode of it has two kinds: intermittent type and continuous type.

In the intermittent operation, the working process of it can be roughly divided into three steps: water intake, static location and drainage. The precipitable suspended matter in the sewage is discharged when it is placed in a static way, and then discharged by a drain pipe at different heights of the sedimentation tank wall.

In continuous operation of the process of it , sewage is continuously inflow and discharge. The sedimentation of the precipitable particles in the sewage is completed in the flow of water, when the precipitable particles are affected by the two aspects of the velocity of gravity and the velocity of the flow of water. The velocity of water flow has an important effect on the precipitation of particles.
