Working principle of Commercial Water Softener Systems

The chemical reaction is: 2RNa+Ca²⁺ (Mg²⁺) =R2 (Mg) +2Na⁺. When the resin is absorbed to a certain amount of calcium and magnesium ions, it must be regenerated. The regeneration is to soak the resin layer with saturated industrial brine, replace the calcium and magnesium ions on the branches, restore the softening and exchange ability of the resin and discharge the waste liquid. The chemical reaction is: R2Ca=2RNa=Ca²⁺. The whole process of regeneration includes the backwash(Loosening resin layer), the slow washing, salt absorption(exchange reaction), washing (positive washing), rinsing the chemical reaction of calcium and magnesium ions, water injection(for the next regeneration).
