With the advent of the rainy season, the river flow through Panama City has increased. Marea Verde, the health and environmental protection organization, has placed a series of artificial barriers in the rivers of Panama City. In a short period of time, all kinds of floating wastes blocked by it weigh several tons.
According to reports, mire í endara, a former Minister of environment and a member of the "green wave" of Panama, told national television of Panama that rivers flowing through Panama City bring 480 tons of garbage into the sea every day, so they set up the barrier as a solution to the pollution of marine garbage.
"Our mangroves are very fragile, although they can withstand the waves, but the deepening of pollution will make it difficult to survive. It's worth noting that in some places that our volunteers have cleaned up, mangroves have been reborn. " Andala said.
Official data confirm that in Panama City, the average person makes 1.2kg of garbage every day, which means that the garbage generated in the city within one year can bury any skyscraper in Panama.
