Treatment of cyanide containing wastewater

The combination of chlorine and oxygen or chlorine treatment, ozone and other treatment methods are used to treat cyanide containing wastewater.

The treatment of cyanide containing wastewater consists of two parts:

Firstly, cyanide is oxidized to form cyanate, which reduces the toxicity of wastewater. Secondly, cyanate will be fully oxidized, and it will be decomposed into nitrogen and carbon dioxide. Sodium hypochlorite is easy to react with chlorine dioxide, which can produce liquid chlorine and oxidizer. It is a chlorine system to treat cyanide containing wastewater.

In the process of cyanide filtration, the principle of oxidation-reduction can also be used, so that some anions such as S2 -, SO32 -, NO3 - in water can be removed. The wastewater containing cyanide is treated by ozone, which is generally divided into two stages.

The first stage will be the conversion of cyanate to cyanate, followed by the oxidation of cyanate to N2 and CO2 in another part of the reaction. Because the chemical reaction in the later stage is very rapid, so we need to add cuprous ion as catalyst. In addition, ozone can also be used for cyanide wastewater treatment. The water quality is well treated. The chlorine oxidation method will not leave residual chlorine and no sludge, but a large amount of power and more equipment investment.
